Overhead Templates
How to populate your Overheads Templates.
Prior to pricing your first job it is important to populate as many of the Overheads Templates as possible. Pay attention to this section and be realistic. Always be aware that there is a substantial overhead cost to construction.
- Go to the Estimate Settings heading and select Overhead Templates. This displays the 15 system templates.
- Select the template you wish to populate and click Populate Template.
- Use the Labour Rate cell to enter the Labour Rate for the template as a whole, then use the arrow button on the left to expand the template to display the line items within.
- Begin populating the template line by line. Figures that are monetary amounts should be entered in the Material Rate ($) To get an entered value to hold simply click into another cell.
- Line items that contain labour need a figure in the Labour Factor column. Labour Factor = time. In the example below, I intend to spend 30mins per week conducting site audits, so I enter a labour factor of 0.5 hrs per week.
- A good tip is to keep the line items generic. If there is anything that is considered a job-specific quantity it should only be entered once the template has been imported into the job. Taking Site Audits as an example: if pricing a 10 week job, once I import this template into the job I would enter “10” in the quantity (Qty) column for Site Audits, to allow half an hour per week x 10 weeks.
But not every job is 10 weeks long. So keep the job-specific quantity blank in the Settings and only enter it once the template is in the job.
- Once the Health and Safety template is complete, use the red “X” in the top right to close. Repeat the process on the other templates, populating as of them many as possible. Remember to be as accurate as you can.
