It's important to understand where the Gantt Chart is driven from to ensure you are updating and maintaining your schedule correctly.
We can create tasks one of two ways:
1. Generate tasks from your estimate
When generating tasks from your estimate, the budgets will automatically be applied.
2. Manually created tasks
When manually creating tasks, you will need to apply budgets to applicable tasks.
- Once budgets have been applied, whether manually or generated from an estimate, you will need to commit this to the project.
- In your Project financials you will be asked to Create the first budget version.
- You will see the changes that have been made, what the budget was and what it will be
- Select Create version to commit your changes to the project
- Once you have committed your budgets, your schedule will start to populate
Purple: Project line
Blue: Task line
Green Direct: Linkable parent task
Green: Lowest level task
To start building your schedule and getting a clear picture of your timeline, you will need to begin linking tasks to create Predecessors and Successors.
You are able to link:
- Projects to Projects
- Task to Project
- Task to Task
- When hovering your mouse over a task line you will see two toggles at each end appear. These are the toggles you can use to link tasks together. By dragging one end to the start or finish of another task, you will link them, creating either a Predecessor or Successor.
- Once linked your schedule will shift
- As you continue to link tasks you will see your schedule start to form a clear timeline
Tasks without a budget
Tasks that present in a Diamond shape represent no man hours applied. Apply a labour budget within the task itself, the task line will generate once the budget has been updated, and the changes have been committed to the Project. This will push the updated data through the platform.
To commit changes to your Project:
- Once the task budget and/or quote has been updated navigate to Project
- You will be asked to either, Create the first budget version or Create a version
Before applying a budget and committing it to the Project:
After applying a budget and committing to the Project:
